WIN Therapy School Curriculum
Educational Objectives/Description of Terms:
It is our goal to have a student-oriented campus where the acquiring of knowledge and skills takes place in a safe and fun environment. Our objectives are to provide an education which:
- Develops comprehensive knowledge relating to the anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and pathology of the human body and its relation to the practice of massage.
- Teaches self-care and builds a strong foundation in the use of appropriate body mechanics.
- Instills confidence, knowledge, and practical skills in the fundamental application of hands- on techniques.
- Demonstrates and teaches the theory and techniques of a variety of therapeutic modalities.
- Instills the ability to properly assess the client’s condition, and to discern when the client should collaborate with other health care practitioners of integrative medicine.
- Promotes safety in client/therapist relationships by enhancing the massage therapist’s verbal and listening skills and students’ awareness of personal and professional boundaries.
- Facilitates the development of business skills necessary to begin employment or operate a successful private practice.

TERM 1
In the first term, students receive an introduction to Basic Anatomy and Physiology of the human body through the detailed study of the skeletal and muscular systems, and the digestive and excretory systems. Students explore the skeletal and muscular anatomy by learning to identify and palpate major bony landmarks and muscles. Students are introduced to Kinesiology and Pathology through the understanding of the joints and their movements; to the benefits and contraindications of massage; and to client history-taking and physical assessment. Students focus on the technique and theory of Swedish Massage, employing the basic strokes of effleurage, pettrisage, friction, tapotement and vibration. They are also instructed in basic Event Sports Massage techniques and theory.
By the term’s end, the student will have acquired the ability to perform a full-body Swedish Massage utilizing professional draping techniques. Information, feedback and coaching are given to the student concerning their posture, holding patterns, breathing and body position.
TERM 2
In the second term, students explore the anatomy, physiology & pathology of the human body through a detailed study of the structure and functions of the systems that include: Endocrine, Cardiovascular, Lymphatic, and Respiratory systems of the body and the effects of massage therapy as it relates to the body systems is examined and integrated throughout the term. Particular attention is given to the skeletal and muscular systems and a study of the movement of the human body. Students learn to name and palpate the origin and insertion and demonstrate the actions of muscles. Learning activities include advanced massage therapy techniques designed to expand and enhance the quality and skill level of the student's full body massage. Attention is given to the use of proper body mechanics. Students learn theories and techniques of thermoregulatory, Pre-Event and Post-Event Sports Massage.
During this term, students may have the opportunity to participate in athletic events. Students develop communication skills needed to establish an atmosphere of trust and safety in the therapeutic relationship. Students will begin their involvement in the Student Teaching Clinic.
TERM 3
Students entering Term 3 have completed 500 hours of studies and are trained to perform a full body massage sequence using a variety of techniques to promote general well being. Students possess fundamental knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Term 3 students will undertake an in-depth journey into the neuromuscular system, incorporating the principles of kinesiology, soft-tissue healing and by expanding their knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology of the neck, shoulder, back and hip. The student will be taught orthopedic assessment and advanced therapy techniques for preventative and rehabilitative care of these areas.
The techniques include neuromuscular therapy, deep transverse friction, myofacial release, trigger point, and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation. Students learn how to utilize these tools to assess and design a massage according to a client’s needs. Students will apply their advanced techniques in monthly student teaching massage clinics and sports events. Continued participation in professionalism courses compliments the student’s education as a diverse and well rounded neuromuscular therapist.
TERM 4
Students entering Term 4 have achieved competence in full body therapeutic massage. Understanding of proprioception, soft tissue healing, therapeutic technique sections and customized approaches are a hallmark of a student at the 750-hour level. In Term 4, students continue their journey into the neuromuscular system through an in-depth study of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and pathology of the upper and lower extremities and of the temporal mandibular region and its associated disorders. Students will apply the advanced therapy techniques, injury evaluation including orthopedic assessment in combination with neuromuscular re-education principles for prevention and rehabilitation of the areas of focus in Term 4.
Students continue participation in student teaching massage clinics and athletic events, to achieve diverse and comprehensive preparation as a neuromuscular therapist. The 1000-hour graduates are prepared to address the musculoskeletal issues studied, by providing individualized, safe, and appropriate therapies. Students training will afford them the confidence to interact with healthcare professionals as part of a health management team.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CLASSES:
Professional Development classes are taught throughout the terms above. The subjects include but are not limited to: Marketing, Ethics, Time Management, Resumes/Interviews, Insurance Re-imbursements & Contracts, Legislation and Licensing Issues, Ways of Practice I & II, Accounting Basics, Business Plans, and Marketing.

FIRST AID / CPR CERTIFICATION:
Students are required to become certified in First Aid and CPR during Term 1 and maintain that certification through graduation. This course is offered at the school. Student attendance is mandatory unless the student can show proof of current certification. Fees for this course are not included in tuition.
LANGUAGE:
All classes at the school are taught in English. English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction is not offered at this time. Foreign students with limited English skills may be admitted on an individual basis. Such students must demonstrate an ability to benefit.
